Homegrown & Established September 15, 2007
Welcome to DiscoverSayville.com, a site devoted to squeezing the creativeness out of the cracks of our sidewalks. This is not a forum for complaints or debates, nor is it an advertising tool to make money and make us rich. (Although that would be nice!) Okay, so we do have costs involved in keeping this site up and running and we will be selling limited ad space, but let's hold that thought for later. We have a bunch of reasons and motivations for starting this web site and hopefully you'll find a reason and motivation to come back often to our creation.

Discover Sayville is not just a web site for town events and local businesses, we hope to be much more than that. This web site will become a journal of the town. We will focus on people who live and/or work in Sayville and show in documentary style video format what a typical day is like for them. We'll feature local artists and businesses that think outside the box. We won't forget visitors to Sayville, they have much to contribute to our town. We are going to expose the creativeness in Sayville that you walk by everyday and perhaps take for granted. We'll give you the history behind everything from the buildings, to special places, to the people who live and work here. Perhaps you need some Sound Advice. We believe we have the master of life experiences here to help you out with life's problems for those times when you don't want to talk to family or friends. Trust us when we say it's not one of the three of us giving you advice, we have a real pro. It anonymous, so you're free to discuss whatever you want. You can connect with other Sayville resident to buy, to sell, to promote yourself and much more. It's also anonymous, so it's safe. You never have to give out personal information. Just because we're a small town, our designs and ideas don't have to be. We welcome you back often.

The Crew
Frank Calise
Chairman of Department of Programming,
Head of Homeland Server Security, Information Technician

Not your stereotypical programmer, Frank chooses to get his tan from the sun and not his computer monitor. He currently plays club soccer, and has played rugby for Sayville High School and Virginia Tech. He prefers the fine beaches of Long Island over a visit to Best Buy to checkout the latest wireless googoophonic H-150 soft tail D-Link router. Language after language, book after book, he wanted to learn everything there was to know about programming and did. He honed his programming skills in two of Sayville's downtown computer shops. After graduating with a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech, Frank entered the real world after being hired by BAE Systems. One year later, he is now attending NYU-Poly for his Master's in Computer Science. While that will be interesting in and of itself, developing DiscoverSayville.com is a great way for him to give back to the community where he grew up.

Rob Van Wyen
Chief Web Designer, Co-President of Graphic Design,
Staff Photographer, Head of Details

A soft spoken Sayville resident, seven generations deep, Rob lets his passion do all the talking. No, not his soccer skills, his other passion: design. Rob can bang out a web site, a full print ad campaign and update DiscoverSayville.com, all before you wake up and order your first triple grande mocha non-fat soy latte. Upon graduating from SUNY New Paltz with a BFA in Graphic Design, Rob made headlines this summer with his Back to Baysics campaign. The campaign aimed to re-educate the Long Island population about the Great South Bay's importance and beauty by raising awareness about bay-related issues. When not commuting on the LIRR or day dreaming of his very own art gallery, Rob is most likely designing and developing collateral for Sayville businesses, Major League Soccer and more alike.

Michael Wikan
Chief of Media, Co-President of Graphic Design,
Staff Photographer, Director of Intern

You may know him as the co-owner of Sayville's Sweet Gourmet. Long before chocolate, Michael had a full head of hair, studied toy design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and motion graphics at NYU. He spent 10 years in Los Angeles and New York City designing toys, video games, web and motion design for top notch clients. When he's not in the studio tinkering with ideas, he is most likely chasing his two-year-old daughter, annoying his wife, packaging Godiva or holding down his second full time design job.

To see more of his work you can view his never updated web site at gfro.com
