Review: Collins & Main Restaurant
Tucked into a corner on South Main Street, Collins & Main Restaurant and Lounge is a jewel in the crown of Sayville's dining experiences.

For those on a quest to find an elegant yet charming, upscale yet affordable, sophisticated yet comfortable restaurant serving a New American/Eclectic cuisine, search no more.

Owners Jerry Marlow and Vincent Malizia have been friends for over 26 years, working side by side for most of that time. Seven years ago they decided it was time for them to go into business for themselves after working most of their lives in the restaurant business. They looked into several locations until they came across Sayville. They both immediately fell in love with the small town location, the community and the south shore. With the support of family and friends they were able to purchase the restaurant. Understanding what it means to belong to such a community, they work hard to be a contributing member of Sayville. Almost all of their staff lives in the Sayville-Bayport area. Many local students have started their work lives at Collins & Main. They have allowed high school musicians to play in their lounge on weekend evening. One recent group was a jazz quartet from Sayville High School.

Jerry and Vincent have created a restaurant that can truly be all things to all people at any given moment. While at any one moment, some guests may be dining at the bar meeting new friends, others may choose to relax over cocktails in the lounge, while others may be enjoying a romantic interlude in the main dining room. Regardless of the reason for your dining out experience, Jerry and Vincent will always make you feel as though you are their most important guest of the evening. They will personally greet you upon entering, take your coat and offer you an opportunity to be seated immediately for dinner, sit in the lounge or visit at the very inviting bar prior to dinner. They are the essence of "hands on" proprietors. During the course of your time at the restaurant, either Jerry or Vincent will make at least one stop at your table to be sure that all of your needs are being met. They have set a high standard for their staff and their staff meets the challenge. You will not find a staff more professional, more knowledgeable and more attentive (while not being intrusive- a fine balance to achieve).

Jerry and Vincent want their business to be a restaurant not only for those special occasions but accessible to the neighborhood for a simple night out or a place to meet friends old and new. They have created specials for almost every night of the week. Tuesday nights is wine lovers night when all wines are half price and a three course prix fixe menu is available for $25.00. Wednesday night is pasta night where salad, dinner and dessert is $16.95. (I have so many favorites, too numerous to mention, from their prior pasta night menu offerings. But I will say this; do not miss the lasagna if you find it on the menu!) Thursday night is prime rib night where salad, prime rib dinner (with a popover as an added bonus) and dessert is to be had for $19.95. Friday night brings us again to a prix fixe three course menu for $32.50.

The decor of the restaurant is so warm and welcoming. The copper bar is unique and beautiful. The tables offer ample space so you are not juggling your dishes and glasses to make room when dinner is served ( a pet peeve of mine at restaurants). The lounge offers comfy chairs and sofas with enough tables to place your drinks. Even the bathrooms are given special attention. I can't speak to the men's room, but the ladies room has a fabulous sink and counter, tissues (what a nice touch!) and a full length mirror. Don't miss the holidays at Collins & Main. The decorations are tasteful and seasonal with one of the nicest trees…
