So mom goes outside this morning to say hello to Sally, Elaine and Jack Whitehouse's lab.
"Sally," she says. "You are so cute."
Sally gives her a kiss.
"You are the best dog next to Max," she says.
Sally rolls over on her back and wriggles.
"I just love you," mom says kissing her head.
By this time, I am ready to gag. I mean, I'm standing there and there mom is kootchie kooing with this dog. Meanwhile Sally is giving me this ha! ha! I'm getting the attention look even if she is cute and I could go for her.
Then, ma comes back in, gives me an absent-minded pat on the head, and declares she has to leave for work.
I hear her when she talks to dad at night about her stories. One time, a News 12 guy and a Channel 55 guy asked her to hold a mic for them while they interviewed someone. Ma had gotten there first. So she laughed it off, said thanks for the promotion, and held the mic.
She has to take pictures, too. Propped herself upfront at the county's police headquarters one time in what she thought was a safe spot with her camera and all the other photographers kind of piled in front of her. So she says, "guys, just give me a space I can use and I'll get out of your hair." They laughed. It worked.
Ma was poring over a county contract just this Sunday for a story she has to do. I've seen her do this with other reports she has to study for assignments. She looked up at me and said, "Max, I think I need to get a life."
Ma, take me on your assignments. I can do investigative work for you and sniff things out. (Ha! Ha!)
I think I'll go over to her and practice mind control on this. Maybe it will work.
