Dear Friends:

Mom won Second Place for In-Depth Reporting Division 1 in the 2009 New York Press Association Better Newspaper Contest last week for her series on the proposed Legacy Village development in Yaphank.

And guess what! I helped her. Moi, moi, moi.

(Well, a little exaggeration. I did walk the property with her and dad one Sunday while she took notes. But I pointed her in the right direction of a fishing spot off the Carmans River.)

She interviewed Ron Lupski, the guy who started the Save the Forge River campaign in Mastic on Saturday.

Did she bring me? Noooooooo.

I kept jumping up and down when she talked to dad about the interview.

I could have held your pen, ma. Well, your notebook would be easier. I could have held that.

What I did do recently was sit in on the interview with Eliot Simon, the Sayville High School freshman who is a whiz at archery. Eliot uses the Smith Point Archery Range in Patchogue for practice. That's going to be in the Suffolk County News and Long Island Advance papers next week.

Helped mom collect her thoughts. Kind of like an inspirational mind meld.

Well, gotta go. It's spring out there and I have to chase some squirrels to keep up my creativity.
