Over the past week I have started to get back into the development of the new and highly improved DiscoverSayville. My last college semester is coming to an end pretty quickly, and a majority of my classes have been slowing down. So, as I was bored and looking for something different to do thanks to the rainy weather for the past few days, I messaged Rob. Let me just say, if you ever feel like taking on a great amount of work, he's your man.
At this point, DS has been pretty slow, as well as the development of the new one. Everyone is busy with jobs (or in my case, going to school to get a job), families, friends, etc. Of course, you have to keep these things prioritized correctly, but I felt it was about time I had fired up the old web programming skills. For whatever reason, I started checking out the community profile for individual users. This was probably the last template Rob had cut out, but it was on my mind due to all the other social networks out there. I recently deleted my Facebook account and have never been a real fan of MySpace, nor a member. Facebook has definitely provided me with some advice on what not to do with our social network. Our team has discussed how these networks can get out of hand, can be offensive, etc and that is not our goal at all. So, I guess I started with the community profile because it was on my mind, and I wanted to get it right so it wouldn't be the downfall to our overall site.
With what we have working at this moment, the profiles look very, very clean. And it is a nice feeling. Also a major feature that Facebook does NOT include which we will have and I will make sure it works to perfection -- deleting your account. That's right, if for some reason you do not like the community profile area, you'll be able to get rid of it in a couple of clicks. Much easier than Facebook, where you have to delete each piece of content individually, deactivate your account, and contact the staff.
As the last two weeks of classes come up, along with finals, I'm definitely going to be swamped. Perhaps a little coding for the new DS will be part of my escape from my academics, along with my friends, family, etc. When I graduate though, I am looking forward to heading back to Sayville, NY and getting together with the team to provide the town with the best Sayville website possible.
