Dog and Writer: Volume 17
By Max (with some interference from my owner Linda Leuzzi)

This is Max: They took us to the vet today. Sheba the blockhead keeps thinking she's cute and barrels into me so much she sprained my leg. (Aren't there any delicate, sweet female dogs around - I had to get this locomotive!!) Then I got a thermometer up my hiney. They wanted to check my temp in case I had Lyme's disease. That was not fun. Why don't you check Sheba's hiney? Why do I have to get punished? All they did to Sheba was draw blood to check for heartworm. We got a lot of treets. That was fun. And we saw some nice wiggly dogs in the waiting room who wanted to… more ›

Filling Empty Bowls
Proceeds, which totaled over $1,700, were donated to the Greater Sayville Food Pantry.

During National Hunger Awareness Month (October), the Sayville High School Art Club and the Sayville School Employees Charitable Foundation hosted an "Empty Bowls" soup/salad dinner event for more than 150 guests in the High School Cafeteria. For a $10 ticket, dinner guests enjoyed an assortment of steaming and hearty homemade soups kept piping hot in crock pots. They sampled a variety of dinner rolls, corn muffins, and biscuits, and had their pick of dressings for the tossed salad. And for their dining pleasure, background music was provided by student Kathreen Mangaluz at the piano. As a special attraction, guests were also invited to select a one-of-a-kind handmade ceramic bowl from the over 250 bowls… more ›

Q&A: Down The Rabbit Hole
One day its pinot noir, the next its Cabernet sauvignon

Q: How did you become interested in wine? I sort of stumbled upon it. I've been a competitive figure skater my entire life and been following my coaches around the country in search of a better training environment. The last place that we settled was in Montclair New Jersey, which is a bedroom community for the city, which means it is choc full of great restaurants and boutiques. One of which was a very cool wine shop. I had always loved to cook and thought that learning about wine was the next logical progression. So, just for fun, I got a job at this boutique and it was love as first swish! I found… more ›

Santa Claus is Comin' to Town
Sayville's 3rd Annual Miracle on Main Street Spreads Holiday Cheer

As Santa Claus and his reindeer touched down on the roofs of Main Street, Sayville's third annual Miracle on Main celebration, held on November 28th, kicked off the holiday season. The party began with the morning parade down the bustling thoroughfare of Sayville. Local organizations filled the streets as they spread their holiday cheer. Parade participants dressed as Christmas stockings, trees, even reindeer to the delight of onlookers lining the sidewalks. Santa closed the parade as his sleigh rolled past the festive storefronts of Sayville's local merchants. The celebration continued that evening with the lighting of the Main Street Christmas Tree. The bulbs burst into colorful life on the towering tree at six o'clock.… more ›

Review: Collins & Main Restaurant
Tucked into a corner on South Main Street, Collins & Main Restaurant and Lounge is a jewel in the crown of Sayville's dining experiences.

For those on a quest to find an elegant yet charming, upscale yet affordable, sophisticated yet comfortable restaurant serving a New American/Eclectic cuisine, search no more. Owners Jerry Marlow and Vincent Malizia have been friends for over 26 years, working side by side for most of that time. Seven years ago they decided it was time for them to go into business for themselves after working most of their lives in the restaurant business. They looked into several locations until they came across Sayville. They both immediately fell in love with the small town location, the community and the south shore. With the support of family and friends they were able to purchase the… more ›
